Columbus Ohio Job Market

Columbus Ohio Job Market

Where to look and what to do.

Columbus, Ohio has a projected unemployment rate of 8% (as of November 2010) according to U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics information. This is certainly not the worst in the country but I am guessing for the people in Columbus who are looking for work - it is not welcome news.

The economy of Columbus includes the headquarters of several national retailers who have just started to see a slight recovery from the economic "downturn" that started around 4 years ago.

If you are looking for work in Columbus you should know that your best chances to finding that perfect job can be had by exploring all of your options. Make sure to be very vocal about your job hunting - friends, family, old coworkers, and anyone who will listen will improve your chances of finding employment. It is also a good idea to use your social networks (Facebook, Twitter, ect) to let everyone know at the same time - although personalized emails and telephone calls are almost certainly preferred. While you are looking for a job, keep in mind that there are many people out there who likely are having a harder time than yourself. With all of this free time it might be worth it to volunteer your time to help these people or just to gain some new experience to put on your resume. Volunteering will also make you feel good and help out your community. It is possible to help out and get a helping had in return (such as new references, experience, and even job opportunities). Give it a shot because in this economy if anything is certain, it is that there is no certainty.
