Ohio Jobless Claims Drop

With the largest single month drop in nearly 30 years, the Ohio unemployment rate reduction may be good news for a struggling region. The Columbus job market is likely to benefit, too. During the month of November, the state's joblessness indicator dropped to 8.5 percent, a full half percent from October's numbers. This is according to the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. The last time the area saw such a large drop was in 1983.
What Does It Mean?
What does this mean as far as the Columbus job market? In short, it means that things are getting better. The number of jobs available is increasing. Where are the jobs?
· The state added jobs in the month of November.
· About 22,000 out of work Ohioans stopped looking for jobs, according to some experts.
· Farm employment grew by 6000 people in the month, lead by service jobs within that industry.
· Although the construction industry saw a fall of jobs, the goods producing manufacturing positions increased.
There are many potential reasons why things are improving. For example, the focus on boosting the auto industry is helping the Columbus job market as well as other job markets in the state. More so, the policies put in place by Governor John Kasich are also helping to add people to the payrolls.
Are you looking for work in Columbus? If so, where are your ideal jobs? Though there are still well over 400,000 people looking for work in the state, this is a lower number than recent months.
